Garfagnana
The Garfagnana area is a historical and geographical region of central Italy, today part of the province of Lucca, in Tuscany. It is the upper valley or basin of the river Serchio, and thus lies between the main ridge of the Northern Apennines to the north-east and the Alpi Apuane to the west. The principal towns are Castelnuovo di Garfagnana and Barga; many other unique attractions are linked with Garfagnana… for example the Devil’s Bridge (Ponte del Diavolo) and the lake of “Isola Santa”.
We don’t want to make you any spoiler, if you decide to take a tour with us we will show you everything, but first… just a curiosity: Barga is named “The most Scottish town in Italy,” because at the end of the 19th century a number of Italians from the town immigrated to Scotland. There were many returnees over the years and now up to 40% of present-day residents have Scottish relatives.
What else? Choose Garfagnana for a real and authentic italian experience, out of the beaten path!
